Yahtzee Game

This is a package for a Yahtzee game from my house. Its an older version so the design has an older look to it. The purpose of the package is to advertise and tell the buyer about the game. The typography is easy for the buyer to read. I like the picture because the dice seem to come at you. The yellow and orange curves reinforce this motion. I chose this design because it makes the game look fun and enjoyable.

Dove Soap

This is a package for Dove soap from my house. The purpose is to inform the customers about and advertise the product. I chose this because it is interesting. The kind of soap says that it is white on the package. I like that the designer used a white package to reinforce this. The Dove type and logo are prominent on the package because they are important. The Dove logo is well known to consumers. I also like that the type on the logo is elegant, almost like it is handwritten. Overall, the package has a clean look to it, which makes sense because soap is clean.

Glee Bracelet

This is a Glee: the 3D Concert Movie bracelet that I got from my work. They were bracelets that we handed out to those who went to the movie. The function is to advertise the movie. We would hand the bracelets out to fans, they would wear the bracelets, then other people would ask them about the bracelets and want to go see the movie and get one. Since it is on a bracelet, the design had to be fairly simple. The Glee logo is simple in itself, any fan would recognize it. The word "Glee" is in red because it is important. The 3D is also in red because it is important. The type is clear and easy to read, helping to make the bracelet simple. I was attracted to this piece because I am a fan of Glee, and because it is a simple design put on something unexpected, such as a bracelet.

Reese's Pieces Package

This is a pack of Reese's Pieces that I found in my room. The function of this package is to advertise the candy and let the consumer know what they are about to eat. I really like the typography used. It almost looks handwritten, yet it is easy to read. The colors all go together nicely. Also, the picture used is relevant because it shows what the candy looks like, so the consumer knows what to expect in the package. I liked this piece because it is so small, but it says a lot.

DVD Cover

This is a DVD that I recently bought at Wal-Mart. It is all three of the Ocean's movies. The purpose of this cover is to advertise the movie. The style of this cover has elements from the Early Modern style. The color scheme of red and black, along with the tilted axis and the sans serif type, is reminiscent of early modern. The white background also reminds me of the contemporary pieces that we looked at. I was attracted to this piece because it is a nice clean design and I like the fact that it uses elements from early modern and contemporary.

Footloose Poster

This is a poster that I found hanging up at the movie theater. It was created to advertise the movie before it came out. This poster isn't a specific design style that we have talked about, but it has a characteristic from the American Kitsch style. The name of the movie, Footloose, is done in a casual, script like font, like posters and designs from the American Kitsch movement. This poster is fairly simple. It has one main picture of feet, which goes with the title of the movie. All of the different feet show the different personalities of the people in the movie. I was attracted to the piece because I like how only the feet are shown and I thought it was a clever way to advertise the movie.

Old Poster

This is a poster that I found at my mom's work. I would classify this poster as Victorian. The way the woman is drawn and the organized layout reminds me of the Victorian pieces that we looked at in class. I am not really sure what this poster says because it is in a different language, but I would assume that the bigger words are the most important ones and they draw the reader in. I was attracted to this piece because it is so organized. I really like organized posters like this one.
